Advanced Test - HSK Test - Listening - Test 1

This is our first HSK advanced listening test. You will first hear an introduction dialogue. All the subsequent questions will be related to the dialogue.

HSK is a standardized test to assess the Chinese language proficiency of non-native Chinese speakers. There are three basic levels of HSK: HSK Basic, HSK Elementary-Intermediate and HSK Advanced. In this website we provide you with sample tests that help you prepare for the HSK exam. And we try to make the tests as similar as possible to the real exams.

Beginner Test - HSK Test - Reading - The Emperor's New Suit

This HSK Beginner exam tests your reading comprehension ability. We give you four passages from the story "The Emperor's new Suit" and you need to answer a series of questions about the story.

The emperor has a new suit but no one is fashionable enough to be able to see it. But the people are quiet as the emperor is not the kind of person who tolerates people without a fashion sense. But then there's this little kid.... why say more... read this story in chinese and answer the questions.

This is Part I of our second HSK Listening test. The HSK Basic Listening test has 3 parts:

- Part I: Match picture with a sentence,
- Part II: In this part,you will hear someone talking or ask you a question, you need to select the most suitable answer to complete the dialogue
- Part III: you will hear a small dialogue between two people and you need to answer the question at the end of the dialogue.

This kind of test is great to improve both your vocabulary and your listening ability even if you don't intend to take the HSK exam. So please try it!

Intermediate Test - HSK Test - Reading - Peter Rabbit

In this HSK advanced Reading test we tell you a story about Peter Rabbit. "Peter Rabbit" is a rabit that was named after a rabbit that Beatrix Potter was given as a child.

We provide you with three different passages taken from the chinese version of "Peter Rabbit's" story. The test then asks specific questions about those stories.

How it works: This is a reading comprehension exercise. Before you can answer any of the questions in this exercise you should read the relevant articles. You can find the articles in your right hand side by clicking on the 'Articles' tab. Each question is labeled with the article number to which the question applies. For example, a question starting with A1 - XXXX refers to article number 1.

Beginner Test - HSK Test - Reading - Three Monks No Water

This HSK Reading test is based on a old chinese proverb: "One monk will shoulder two buckets of water, two monks will share the load, but add a third and no one will want to fetch water".
Compared to you, if you are about to to take the HSK exam, the monks had it easy. They had to carry two buckets of water but you will have to carry three. And you will have no one to help you. But what you can do is to practice before the big day.

How it works: This is a reading comprehension test. Before you can answer any of the questions in this exercise you should read the relevant articles. Beginner Test - Learn Pinyin and Tones - Discrimination of sounds - Test 4

The fourth test in our series 'Learn Pinyin and Tones - Discrimination of sounds' that tests your knowledge of pinyin and the ability to recognize different sounds. The purpose of the test is to help you distinguish similar sounds, such as: j-zh, t-d, z-zh, etc. For Finals, the hardest part is to make a distinction between in-ing, en-eng, an-ang and so on.

How it works: You will hear the sound of a word in chinese and you have to select the right pinyin spelling from a number of options. For each question only one option is correct.

Beginner Test - Learn Pinyin and Tones - Discrimination of tones - Test 5

The fifth test in our series 'Learn Pinyin and Tones - Discrimination of tones' that tests your knowledge of pinyin and the ability to recognize different tones.

Pinyin is the most commonly used Romanization system for Standard Mandarin. Literally, it means to spell sound. It was designed to look up unknown Chinese characters in dictionaries, as well as teaching Chinese learners the standard pronunciation of Mandarin Chinese. Once you’ve learnt Pinyin, you will be able to pronounce any of the words in Mandarin using a Chinese dictionary.

The aim of this test is to test your knowledge of Hanyu Pinyin. The exercise set includes 10 questions, and each one contains a Pinyin sound with one relevant Pinyin character. Please listen to the sound and select the most appropriate answer from A, B, C and D. Repeat the exercise as much as you can. It will help you to learn how to distinguish the different pinyin tones.
